Lakeland (FL) Impressed With Mitt........

........Mitt had them sighing, with a few eyes misting, when he told them of the dedication and patriotism of athletes performing at the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics

........Three criteria must come first: securing the borders, developing a system for determining the legality of any potential immigrant employee and the resolve that illegal immigrants not be given an advantage for residency, as he thinks the current bill would appear to do.

........"Given the strength of my staff here and the support I have been receiving, we are going to go after the Florida delegates and win,"

........"We are scheduled for a huge tax increase in 2011," he said, referring to several interim tax cuts that Republicans want to make permanent. "And I want the tax that is levied on interest on savings and dividends to be zero."

More On Mitt's Visit to Florida.........

This is a must read from "Elect Mitt in 2008."

Romney Blasts Obama, Clinton

"Voting against our troops during a time of war shows the American people that the leaders of the Democrat Party will abandon principle in favor of political positioning.

"Their votes render them undependable in the eyes of the men and women of the United States military and the American people."

Ask Mitt Anything........Jacksonville, FL

Here's what Jacksonville News had to say.

New Bill Not Fair to Those Who Are Trying to Immigrate Legally

Jacksonville, FL:

Romney expressed less tolerance (than Bush and McCain) for illegal immigrants, and said he and President Bush have a difference of opinions on a bill that would provide a path toward legalization for an estimated 12 million people unlawfully in the country.

"He has his view, and other people have their views and I have my own," Romney said. "This is for all intents and purposes a form of amnesty in that everyone who is here illegally today will be able to stay under this bill."

The bill is unfair to people who are trying to come to the country legally, he said. People here illegally should be able to apply to come to the United States, but under the same terms as everyone else and behind those who have already applied.

Romney Not Anti-Gay!

In Jacksonville FL, here's what Mitt said today (click here to read the whole article)

"What you look for in a leader is someone who will welcome and treat with respect people who made different choices and have different beliefs in their lives and have differences. I have nothing but respect and feelings of tolerance for people with differences from myself and feel that way with regards to those who are gay," he said.

He noted that one of his Cabinet members was gay and that he appointed gays to positions of responsibility in his administration.

"I oppose discrimination against gay people," Romney said. "I am not anti-gay. I know there are some Republicans, or some people in the country who are looking for someone who is anti-gay and that's not me."

He said he is opposed to gay marriage because it's not in the best interest of children.

McCain AWOL

You know, I've been rather annoyed with McCain lately..........Romney says something about McCain's policy blunders, so McCain retaliates by making personal attacks .........childish? Yes, but typical politics.......so it is often overlooked.

On things of a more serious nature, McCain has lost my support regardless if he, by some miracle, comes out on top in the Primaries. His stance on illegal-immigration.......well, if you consider amnesty a stance on illegal-immigration, will accomplish nothing but encourage more people to immigrate illegally. His rhetoric about the war and his undying support for the troops and victory in Iraq is hogwash........why in heaven's name, would a Senator who harbors such convictions on Iraq, be among only a handful of senators who weren't present when crucial votes on war resolutions were made!

I am beyond baffled.

Run to Daylight!

Democrats and Republicans alike better believe that Mitt is formidable.

Immigration and political tactics aside........is there a harder working candidate out there? Mitt focuses most of his efforts on his grassroots' support.........when we come out of obscurity, America is in for quite a surprise as they find out Mitt's support is much higher than the national polls indicate. The polls will come folks, just be patient.......the giant is still sleeping, and I think he'll wake up at just the right moment.

Getting Immigration Right

Governor Romney: "We need to make America more attractive for legal immigrants -- for citizens -- and less attractive for illegal immigrants. I want to see more immigration in our country, but more legal immigration and less illegal immigration." (AP, June 23, 2006)

Romney Vs McCain

McCain vs. Romney:

Romney: "McCain-Kennedy would do to immigration what McCain-Feingold did to campaign finance, and that's bad."

MKH: Ooooh, burn!

Audience: Loud applause...

McCain: (Must..cover...anger...toward...Romney...and...audience.) Well, I think it was necessary to deal with the money problem that was causing corruption in the government...And, I have had a consistent position. I have not changed my position in even-numbered years.

Audience: Hesitant applause...

Gonna have to give the win to Romney on that one. Though, I do give McCain the crown over Romney when it came to being genuine and genuinely funny at times

Five Brothers

The blog Governor Romney's boys take care of is truly fun to visit........It's funny, candid, down-to-earth, and heartwarming. It's so refreshing to see a truly functional and close-knit family. Mitt Romney isn't kidding when he says he knows something about family values--by his fruits you shall know him I suppose. Not to put too much focus on the other top candidates, but can you see their families doing something like this?

P.S. The link to their blog is on the right.

Sharpton.....Making Things Right?

Some tidbits about the Sharpton/Romney controversy:
Sharpton apologizes and is flying out to SLC to make amends. This is the right move for Sharpton, and he has gained some admiration from me. I imagine there will be good dialogue between him and the Mormon church leaders in Utah. Sharpton seems sincere in his apology. He still isn't afraid to take cheap shots at Romney though.......he's still a Democrat after all.

Sharpton does have issues with the Mormons' controversial history with African Americans. Blacks weren't able to hold the priesthood in the church's past.

It wouldn't be prudent to label Mormons as racists however.......the priesthood issue was in the past and let's face it--much of America's history is laced with unfortunate events regarding African Americans.

Interesting points were brought up about the Mormons' history with African Americans......Mormons were Abolitionists! To a large degree, that is why the Mormons had to abandone their homes to settle in the western deserts--it was actually legal to kill Mormons in Missouri!

One thing is for certain......it has been made abundantly clear this week that there are a lot of questions people have on Romney's faith. It seems that Romney will have to, whether he likes it or not, give his own rendition of JFK's famous speech to quench American fears of religious influence in the Oval Office. I'm looking forward to it of course......if anyone can pull of an impressive campaign-altering speech, it would be Mitt Romney.

Need Some Reading Material?

Let's hope Time does a fair and balanced report on Romney........

Have you heard this argument before......that Mitt is too smooth, too handsome, and too perfect, so something is obviously wrong?.......I don't see the logic in that, but I'm anticipating this argument being expounded upon--the article is to be released on May 11th.

It would be nice if the article isn't just about religion and Mitt's stance on abortion........one can hope.

I am very excited that, if anything, this will increase Mitt's name recognition.

That's right! In case you haven't heard, the Florida primary will be held the 29th of January; we Floridians are huge players in getting Romney elected! Come On In! The Water's Fine!

For those of you who haven't read about Governor Romney's inspiring commencement addresss at Regent University, a Christian school headed by Pat Robertson, you will enjoy these excerpts.

The thing I love most about Mitt is his ability to motivate and inspire. I'm catching glimpses of his dreams for a better America, and I can't help but feel that I am making a difference just by supporting him.

It's funny, I was kind of thrown back after Mitt encouraged the students to swim out into the deeper waters. I think my whole life I was told to stay in the shallows--there it is safe, I know what to expect, and I can wade comfortably. Mitt challenged the students (and I imagine all of us) to go out and seek our potential............it may not be comfortable, it may not be what we expect, and it might not be without trials and tribulations....... But it will be invigorating! If we are to challenge ourselves and, by so doing, change the world by making some waves, what isn't possible?

This is just my take on his speech, it might affect you differently.......here is a segment of the address:

"Over the years, I have watched a number of people live out their lives in shallow water. In the shallows, life is all about yourself - your job, your money, your rights, your needs, your ideas, your comforts. In the deeper waters, life is about others - spouse, family, friends, faith, community, country. In the deep waters, there are challenging ideas, opposing opinions, protracted battles of consequence. You are, of course, giving a great deal of thought to your career. The economic environment may be more turbulent and competitive than my generation has known. Some of you will be tempted to stay near shore, where there are no big breakers and where you will never make any waves. Others will push beyond the sandbar, pursuing new frontiers, exploring new ideas, driving to achieve, to learn, to influence, to contribute. If there ever was a time for great Americans, great and good Americans, Americans who are willing to cross into the deep waters of life, it is now. You cross into the deep waters by marrying and raising good children. There is no work more important to America's future that the work that is done within the four walls of the American home. You cross into the deep waters by driving yourself in your education and in your avocation beyond the safe and comfortable, to reach new insights, to make contributions, to serve. You cross into the deep waters by serving in your church, in your community, in the military, in government or in volunteer service. I am optimistic about the future of America because I have seen the spirit and heart of the American people."
